Lola Ashiru, Sadiq Umar drop governorship bids, opt for Senate race

Two governorship aspirants in Kwara State have signalled a significant political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections, droping their ambitions for senatorial race under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Lola Ashiru, representing Kwara South, and his Kwara North counterpart, Sadiq Suleiman Umar, both widely regarded as leading governorship hopefuls, have obtained the party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for the Senate.

The development was confirmed by sources familiar with the matter who spoke with The Informant247.

Umar is among the two leading gubernatorial aspirants from Kwara North, a region currently agitating for a power shift.

However, neither Ashiru nor Umar has officially confirmed the move.
