Tinubu will govern till 2031, hand over to a Northerner — Joe Igbokwe

Joe Igbokwe, the Special Adviser on Drainage and Water Resources to the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has taken a swipe at the South East region where he (Igbokwe) hails from.

He said the president elect, Senator Bola Tinubu will govern Nigeria for 8 years and would pass the baton of leadership to a Northerner.

The Informant247 recalls that the issue of power rotation became subject of contention and generated reactions from many quarters in the buildup to the 2023 elections.

Some persons were of the opinion that it was the turn of the South East to produce the president of the country, majority of whom eventually queued behind the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi who amazingly came third in the February 25 presidential election.

While campaigning for the incumbent Governor of Lagos State, Sanwo-Olu, Igbokwe told Igbos in the state to vote for the incumbent Governor.

He said the president elect, Tinubu had supported Igbo business-persons in the state, and support for Sanwo-Olu can be likened to a payback for Tinubu’s kindness over the years.

“President-Elect ASIWAJU BAT is a good friend of the Igbo and he did his best for prominent Igbo businessmen and women in Lagos including me. This is payback time and we should do this by voting for GOV SANWO OLU en-mass on March 18.”

One Facebook user, Ejike Akunna apparently angered Igbokwe with his comment which stated: “Dash him your wife and daughters and enthrone him as your family deity. That’ll be adequate payback,” Akunna wrote.

Responding, Igbokwe said, “When I see the level of despicable abuses and calling of names coming from the South East young people I run away with the thinking that we did not do our duties as parents. Shame has enveloped me from head to toes.

“Ejike Akunna jisieike, mark my words here: Asiwaju from 2023 to 2031 and another Northerner from 2031 to 2039. We will still be children of anger and children of hate and life goes on. We will be onlookers because we refused to play politics. Dazzol!!!”

The Informant247 also recalls that Igbokwe in a social media post in 2022 said if not for Lagos State, he possibly would be chasing lizards in Aba, Abia State, or he would have become a native doctor.

“LAGOS, If not for Lagos, somebody like me, will be in Aba chasing lizards to use as a native doctor. LAGOS…. You come to Lagos with a nylon bag and go back to Ibo land with Rolls Royce.”
