Sokoto State federal, state, and private universities
There are three (3) universities in Sokoto State!
Sokoto state is one of the 36 states that make up Nigeria. It is located in the northwestern part of the country, and it has an estimated population of 4.2 million people according to 2006 census.
Sokoto is an agricultural community with a population that is predominately Fulani. Over 80% of the people living in the state engage in agriculture.
Three universities exist in Sokoto State, of which one belongs to the federal government and others to the state government.
Below is the list of NUC-approved Federal, state, and private universities in Sokoto State.
Federal University in Sokoto State
- Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (formerly University of Sokoto)
Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto is one of the four Universities established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in September 1975.
State-owned University in Sokoto State
- Sokoto State University, Sokoto
The Sokoto State University had its legal existence in May 2009 but commenced academic activities in October 2013.
- Sokoto State University of Education, Sokoto
Formerly known as Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto State University of Education is the First University Of Education in the state.
According to VON, The National Universities Commission, NUC approved the upgrade of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, to a University of Education in March 2022.
