Sokoto state is one of the 36 states that make up Nigeria. It is located in the northwestern part of the country, and it has an estimated population of 4.2 million people according to 2006 census.
Sokoto is an agricultural community with a population that is predominately Fulani. Over 80% of the people living in the state engage in agriculture.
One polytechnic exists in Sokoto State, which belongs to the state government.

- Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto
The polytechnic was established in July 2001 when the government merged the former Haliru Binji College of Arts and Science and Dani Abacha College of Administration. The government’s goal was to improve education standards in the state.
Thereafter renamed Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto in 2016, with five colleges and later developed to seven.
