The Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, addressed the media today during a press briefing ahead of the 29th convocation ceremony scheduled for November 8th and 9th, 2023.

The press conference aimed to provide insights into the institution’s achievements, ongoing projects, and challenges faced.

The Rector outlined the schedule of activities, including an inter-denominational prayer session and a Convocation lecture to be delivered by Engr. Dr. Taofeeq Abdul Hameed.

He emphasized the importance of seeking divine guidance and fostering academic discourse as part of the convocation events.

In his address, the Rector expressed gratitude to the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his unwavering support for the Polytechnic.

He highlighted several achievements, including the commissioning of various Income Generating Revenue (IGR) projects, renovation of academic facilities, and infrastructural development within the campus.

The Rector mentioned the successful completion of projects such as the 33KV project, renovated Old IOT Lecture Halls, Laboratories/workshops, reinforced concrete drainage, and the remodeled Library and Information Science Department.

He also highlighted the Zango Power Project, which provides regular power supply to the Polytechnic and surrounding communities, as well as several government agencies and educational institutions.

In addition to infrastructural improvements, the Rector discussed the implementation of Centralized Online Research Assessment and Submission System (CORASS) and Digital Project Binding, initiatives aimed at enhancing research quality and authenticity among students.

He also mentioned the renovation of the Medical Lodge to improve the working environment for medical staff on duty.

Despite the achievements, the Rector highlighted challenges faced by the institution, including the need for a perimeter fence to enhance security and address encroachment issues.

He also appealed for government intervention in funding accreditation exercises and comprehensive renovation of aging structures within the Polytechnic.

The Rector concluded his address by expressing gratitude to the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Tertiary Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Mary Ronke Arinde, for her support, as well as the Polytechnic staff, students, and the general public for their cooperation in organizing the convocation ceremony.
