In this follow-up report by The Informant247’s Abdulrahaman Taye, he revealed how the management of the Kwara State Polytechnic finds itself entangled in confusion as it attempts to justify the commissioning of incomplete projects previously exposed by the medium.
The management of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin has found itself entangled in confusion as it attempts to justify the commissioning of incomplete projects by intertwining drainage and walkway projects.
The institution’s rector had touted the construction of walkways as significant enhancements to the school’s aesthetic appeal during his last convocation speech.
However, an investigation by The Informant247, published on February 1, 2024 revealed that this project was only partially completed at the time of its commissioning.
Findings in the report indicated that the constructed walkways covered only a fraction of the intended distance, stretching merely from the roundabout to the front of the administration block, with substantial portions left uncovered and filled with loose sand.
In response to the report, the institution’s spokesperson, Halimat Garba, issued a statement defending the walkway and landscaping project.
However, the statement only referenced the construction of drainage systems — another project entirely, which was not previously mentioned in the investigation.
According to the statement, “The Management had embarked on the construction of drainages and de-silting of the existing ones to ensure that water is channeled properly during the rainy season.”
It further added, “The total length of completed drainages constructed within the campus is equivalent to 2.533km, contrary to the reporter’s claim of limited coverage from the roundabout to the front of the administration block.”
While the institution sought to highlight the drainage projects, it failed to address the discrepancies in the completion of the walkway projects, further raising questions about the spokesperson’s understanding of the institution’s infrastructure works.
