In this story by The Informant247’s Adisa-Jaji Azeez, he reported on how the management of Kwara State Polytechnic admitted to the subpar execution of one of its landmark projects at the time of commissioning. Additionally, the report revealed how the institution attempted to conceal these shortcomings.

The management of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has admitted that some of its projects were executed below standard at the time of commissioning.

This admission follows the first part of an investigative report published by The Informant247 on November 10, 2023, which exposed deficiencies in the state of the old library, purportedly transformed into a modern department of library science

Despite the Rector’s detailed descriptions of the project, The Informant247’s findings revealed that the ‘remodeled’ building amounted to little more than a superficial makeover, hastily covered with paint and lacking the comprehensive facilities touted in the official statements.

Dilapidated surroundings, broken windows, and unsanitary conditions further underscored the discrepancy between the promised improvements and the reality.

While the official description boasted of 10 offices, a 150-capacity lecture room, a departmental training library, and other amenities, The Informant247’s observations exposed the opposite, with inadequate furnishings and unsatisfactory toilet facilities.

In response to the report, which took the institution more than 3 months, the school’s spokesperson, Halimah Garba, admitted to the substandard work, adding the management’s dissatisfaction with the project’s status at the time of commissioning.

She was, however, in an attempt to cover up, quick to add that the project was not commissioned by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Abdulkadir Aliyu Mahe, who represented his principal, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq at the event.

Contrary to the spokesperson’s assertions, evidence from the Rector’s convocation speech and the ceremonial plaque for the project’s commissioning on November 9, 2023, directly contradicts the attempt to distance the institution from the project’s premature unveiling.

School rushes to complete project after investigation

Meanwhile, following the The Informant247’s first exposé, sources revealed that the Rector immediately initiated efforts to equip the remodeled library to meet the expected standards.

“This signaled a belated but necessary attempt to mitigate the impact of the publication,” a source with knowledge of the situation disclosed.

“The decision to address the deficiencies stemmed from a desire to mitigate the negative publicity. He never wanted to do that, but he need to see his face,” the source added.
