Kwara nursing school to admit only 50 of 459 candidates
Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology in Kwara state, Mrs. Sa’adatu Kawu Modibbo, has said only 50 of the 459 candidates will be admitted to the State College of Nursing and Midwifery this year.
Kawu reaffirmed that the process of admitting meritorious applicants has started with the Kwara State College of Nursing, Oke-Ode where 459 candidates obtained the form and 414 sat for the computer based examination.
She disclosed this while receiving the report of the admission process of Kwara State College of Nursing, Oke-Ode for the year 2020/2021 session in her office.
Kawu explained that the Nigeria Council of Nursing and Midwifery approved only 50 candidates/students to be admitted by the College, noting that in the past, over 150 applicants would be admitted and thereafter weed them to the required figure as stipulated by the regulatory body.
She furthered that 60 candidates out of the 414 who wrote the entrance examination scored 50% and above, adding that only the 50 candidates that passed the oral test would be admitted into the College in compliance with the Nursing Council’s regulations.
She reiterated its commitment to reposition Tertiary Institutions in the state by adhering strictly to the admission procedure of admitting only qualified students.
“The Management of the institutions have been warned not to swap successful candidates with those who failed entrance examinations,” she stated, pointing out that the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Technology would continue to play its part as the supervising Ministry to ensure compliance.
