Kwara North Forum seeks fair representation for Moro in NASS ahead 2027 election

The Kwara North Consultative Forum has appealed to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), political stakeholders and traditional rulers in Kwara North to ensure equitable political representation for Moro Local Government Area ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement signed by Ahmed Ndagi Ibrahim, Muhammed Sodiq Nagiya, Isiaha Samuel and Muhammad Baba Muhammad on behalf of the forum, the group urged the party to consider Moro for National Assembly representation, arguing that the council has been excluded from the Senate and House of Representatives since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999.

According to the forum, while other local government areas in the Kwara North Senatorial District have produced senators and members of the House of Representatives at various times over the past two decades, Moro has yet to hold either position.

The forum described its appeal as a call for fairness, inclusion and political stability rather than a demand for preferential treatment.

“We believe this reality deserves careful reflection, not because any community is more important than another, but because fairness and inclusion remain the foundation of enduring political stability,” the statement said.

The group called on the APC leadership to use the 2027 elections as an opportunity to reinforce its commitment to justice, equity and internal democracy across the district.

It also expressed optimism over the emergence of a credible aspirant from Moro Local Government during the APC primary for the Edu, Moro and Patigi Federal Constituency, urging the party to respect and uphold the outcome of its democratic processes.

The forum further noted that the appeal was significant in view of what it described as the Peoples Democratic Party’s decision to zone its senatorial ticket to Moro Local Government.

It warned that failing to give Moro fair consideration within the APC could create a political advantage for the opposition while discouraging loyal party members in the area.

According to the forum, offering Moro a fair opportunity would strengthen the APC’s support base in Kwara North, promote unity among party members and prevent avoidable political discontent that could affect the party’s electoral fortunes.

The group stressed that its position should not be interpreted as agitation or confrontation, but rather as a sincere appeal for inclusion and equal opportunity for all communities within the senatorial district.

It also called on political leaders, elders, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders in Kwara North to promote dialogue and support decisions that would foster lasting harmony across the district.

The statement was signed by Ahmed Ndagi Ibrahim (Edu Local Government), Muhammed Sodiq Nagiya (Patigi Local Government), Isiaha Samuel (Edu Local Government) and Muhammad Baba Muhammad (Patigi Local Government) on behalf of the Kwara North Consultative Forum.
