Kwara law students honour late A.G.F. Abdulrazaq

The National Association of Kwara State Law Students (NAKLAS), National Headquarters, has honoured the late AbdulGaniyu Folorunsho AbdulRazaq, SAN, with a Posthumous Award of Excellence in recognition of his trailblazing contributions to the legal profession as the first lawyer from Northern Nigeria.

The recognition was bestowed during the NAKLAS National Conference 2026 (NNC ’26) and Book Launch held in honour of the Emir of Ilorin, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, JCA (Rtd.), CFR.

Receiving the award on behalf of the AbdulRazaq family was Alhaji Abdulrahman Giwa, alongside Alhaji Yusuf Abdullahi, Dr. Muhammad Gali, Alhaji Sa’adudeen Salahudeen, and other notable dignitaries.

Presenting the award, NAKLAS National President, H.E. AbdulBasit AbdulRauf, described the late legal icon as a pioneer whose legacy continues to inspire generations of lawyers and law students across Kwara State and Nigeria.

The event, held at the Arca Santa Arena in Ilorin, also witnessed the launch of the book, “The Bar, the Bench, and the Crown: A Living Legend’s Contribution to Law and Justice in Nigeria,” dedicated to celebrating the enduring impact of the Emir of Ilorin on the nation’s legal and judicial landscape.

In addition, Awards of Recognition were presented to first-generation lawyers in Kwara State for their remarkable contributions to legal practice and the administration of justice.

NAKLAS noted that the conference and awards ceremony formed part of its broader efforts to preserve the state’s legal heritage and inspire young legal practitioners through the celebration of exemplary achievements and legacies.
