Bandits invaded Rukpete village in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State on Monday night and kidnapped at least six residents.

A local vigilante, Abdullahi Sa’idu, told Peoples Gazette on Tuesday that the attackers disrupted the peace of the community during the raid.

“They came into our community yesterday and kidnapped 7 persons but released a woman with a child.

“Now, six people are in captivity. They invaded us between 10 a.m to 11 a.m in our village. They didn’t kill anyone,” he told The Gazette, via telephone call.

Mr Sa’idu told the Gazette that the bandits who shot sporadically during the attack, had demanded N200 million for release of six farmers abducted.

According to him, the attackers targeted shops and asked for specific individuals before carrying out the abductions.

“We talked to them this morning and they demanded N200 million because we have a BUA company in our community,” he said.

Efforts to obtain comment from the state police spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi were not successful. Calls and messages were ignored as of press time.
