After days of intense negotiations, the Kwara State Government and the labour unions have reached a deal on the implementation modality of the new national minimum wage.
The state government and labour unions had disagreements over the implementation of the new minimum wage law, making the state’s workforce threaten to go on strike.
Specifically, the disagreements centred on relativity and adjustments of salaries for different categories of workers and the Local Government staffer.
The state government on December 31st inaugurated the minimum wage committe to work out a template for the adjustment of salaries of public service employees in line with the minimum wage law.
There have been several disagreement before finally striking a deal this week.
The agreed consequential adjustment for Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS);
• Grade Level 1 to 6….full implementation.
• GL 7 to 8……28.5%
• GL 9…….27.5%
• GL10…..27.8%
• GL12……22.6%
• GL13……21.6%
• GL14….25.6%
• GL15…..13.5%
• GL16……12.5%
• GL17……30.5%
The adjsutemt also includes Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS), Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS), Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure II (CONUASS II).
Others are; Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Salary Structure (CONPCASS) and Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS).
With the new scale agreed between government and labour unions, a Grade Level 04 step 1 will earn N34,932.49, Grade Level 05/1 N36,934.67, GL.06/1 N37,627.86 while GL 07, Step 1 will now earn about N39,775.80.
