The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi has narrated how his family members maintained an opposite stance to his own, as they conspired against him (Umahi) to cast their votes for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi during the February 25 presidential election.
While granting a television interview, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain said it came to him as a surprise that President Muhammadu Buhari and the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, did not win in their states during the presidential election of February 25.
He said he never thought the LP would win any election in Ebonyi State considering the reliable political structure already put in place.
He said in the build up to the presidential election, he had thought no other political party would even win councillorship position in his state.
He said he was surprised to know that his family members voted for Obi but cast their votes for the APC in other elections in the state.
He described the votes accumulated by Obi as a people’s protest against hardship and agony in the country.
He said, “In all honesty, I didn’t give any chance to the Labour Party to win any election in my State (Ebonyi State) because what we have put in place was such that no other political party should be able to win anything, not even Councilorship election in my State. I saw the Labour Party vote as a protest against my Party (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
“I was very surprised; even in my family, there was a conspiracy against me. I did not know that they voted for Peter Obi, but in the other election, they voted for APC because of what we’ve done in the State.
“It was not a vote for His Excellency Peter Obi. As such, there is seemingly hardship and challenges in Nigeria”
