An unidentified hunter has been shot dead by bandits in a joint operation with the police. In the process, some kidnapped victims were rescued in Chukuku forest in the Kuje area council of Abuja.
The Commissioner of Police in FCT, CP Sunday Babaji, revealed the incident to newsmen at the headquarters of the command in Abuja, on Wednesday.
Babaji said the operation was employed in reaction to a credible information about the suspicious movement of some suspected bandits, who were holding some persons hostage at Dadu Hill.
He said shortly after the receival of the security information, the police with members of the Destiny Hunters stormed Dadu Hills, via Chukwuku village to challenge and overpower the bandits.
The CP said that one of the hunters lost his life during the confrontation, as he was hit by bullet of the bandits.
He noted that the hideouts of the bandits were successfully invaded and dislodged, while four kidnapped victims in captivity gained their freedom unhurt.
According to the CP, the joint operation was done about 06:00hrs on Tuesday. The names of the freed victims were reported as Felix Vaa, Mustahudeen Sani, Abdulsalam Uzugi and Adamu Isah.
“And all the victims who were reportedly kidnapped between the 23rd and 25th of May 2022 at Kiyi while one of them, Abdulsalam Uzugi, was kidnapped at Anguwan Gade extension of Kuje Area council,” he said.
The CP, also revealed that some of the bandits went away with various forms of injuries, as a result of the pressure coming from the joint force.
He said that the victims have been hospitalized and subsequently gone back to their families.
The police commissioner, condoles with the family and friends of the deceased hunter, telling those living in the affected areas to rely on the police’s unrelenting commitment to get crime rid of the areas.
