In a recent turn of events surrounding the legal representation of Adegbola Abdulazeez, known as Tani Olohun, the Isese Welfare Association, a group of indigenous religion practitioners, has spoken out about why they decided to disassociate themselves from Barrister Muftau Olobi.

Olobi had been representing Tani Olohun in court, who was arrested on various charges, including insulting the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.

The association raised concerns about Olobi’s faith, claiming he is a practicing Muslim who frequently commutes between Lagos and Kwara states.

This revelation came after Olobi issued a public apology on behalf of Adegbola to various groups, expressing repentance for his previous actions.

The apology, dated October 9, 2023, stated that Tani Olohun had repented and sought forgiveness from the Association of Proud Sons and Daughters of Ilorin Emirate and the worldwide Muslim community.

The apology referenced provisions of the Holy Quran on forgiveness and expressed sincerity.

In response to Olobi’s plea, the Isese Welfare Association released a press statement jointly signed by its Coordinator, Adérẹ̀mí Ifáòleèpin Adérẹ̀mí, and Secretary General, Ifágbénúṣọlá Popoola, denouncing Olobi and making it clear that he was not Tani Olohun’s legal representative.

Aderemi, the association’s coordinator, explained that Olobi’s religious affiliation and alleged associations with the petitioners led to their decision.

They also expressed doubt about Olobi’s commitment to Tani Olohun’s best interests.

The association claimed they had hired Olobi, paying him N300,000 for his legal services, and some members even had to contribute money to raise this fee.

They believed Olobi’s apology letter was written without their consent and did not serve their purpose.

Aderemi clarified that Olobi was introduced to the association through a mutual friend who was part of their community, while Barrister Banks was the lawyer recognized by the group.

When reached out to Olobi, he confirmed the association’s request to stop representing Adegbola.

He mentioned concerns regarding his faith and interactions with Muslim clerics. Olobi emphasized that he had stepped aside as Tani Olohun’s lawyer for personal reasons, and he denied claims of being drunk.
