Gunmen kill ex-NPC commissioner, kidnap his children in Nasarawa

A former Commissioner of the National Population Commission, NPC, Mr. Zakari Umaru-Kigbu has been killed by gunmen in Nasarawa State.

The gunmen also kidnapped two of his daughters.

It was gathered that the incident happened in on Sunday at Umar-Kigbu’s residence in Azuba Bashayi, Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

It was gathered that a ransom of N50 million has been demanded for the freedom of the victims.

A family member, who decided to comment under anonymity authenticated the news on Sunday morning in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

He said, “Mr. Umaru-Kigbu was killed by gunmen last night in his residence at Azuba Bashayi, Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and two of his daughters were also kidnapped.”

Report has it that the diseased, aged 60, was a retired Air Force officer.

It was gathered that the deceased victim was a lecturing staff at the Department of Mass Communication, lsa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia (IMAP), and a one time NPC federal commissioner, Nasarawa State.

It was also gathered that the deceased victim, before his death, was the agent of a governorship aspirant, Mr. Labaran Maku, who vied for governorship position under the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, but later relaxed his political ambition.

While confirming the news, the spokesperson of the police in the state, ASP Ramhan Nansel, said, “We responded to the distressed call and immediately deployed our partrol teams of the command and the military also drafted its men to the scene of the incident to support the Nigeria Police Force so as to rescue the two daughters of the diseased unhurt.”

“The command has lunched a manhunt for the perpetrators,” he added.

The spokesperson confirmed that two of the deceased victim’s daughters were kidnapped but said that he was not aware of the N50 million ransom requested by the kidnappers.
