Fulani traders arraigned for alleged N1.5m robbery in Kwara
Four Fulani men trading in Kwara and Oyo states were, on Thursday, arraigned before a Kwara Magistrate Court over alleged robbery of a farmer, Hassan Umar in Gwanara, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara state at gunpoint.
The Prosecution alleged that the four traders; Mallami Mohammed (35years) trading in Kaiama Fulani camp, Yale Bello (37years) trading in Ilesa Baruba, Ali Umar (31years), a Cattle rearer at Bwen Fulani camp, all in Kwara State and Abubakar Aliyu (28years), a trader at Sepeteri town in Oyo state conspired and robbed one Hassan and his son, Shamsudeen Sheu of N1.5 million with guns and other dangerous weapons.
The four accused persons were facing a two count charge of alleged conspiracy and Armed robbery contrary to sections 6(B) and 1(2) of Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap R11 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
Police First Information Report (FIR), read and interpreted to the accused persons, said that one Hussein Umar reported at Gwanara Police station that his brother, Hassan and his son, Samsudeen Sheu were attacked by some people with guns at about 11pm on April 11, 2020.
He said, “After the gunshots which lasted about thirty minutes, I went to my brother’s compound and met him and his son in pool of blood, having sustained gunshot injuries.
“The complainant reported further that he rushed the victims to the hospital where they informed him that some hoodlums armed with guns and other dangerous weapons invaded their house and robbed them of the sum of N1.5million at gun point.”
The Court did not take the plea of the accused persons.
However, the Prosecutor, Inspector Saliu Issa in an exparte motion brought before the Court prayed for the detention of the four accused persons pending the completion of the Police investigation on the matter.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Oladosu Abayomi ordered that the four accused persons should be detained at the Federal Correctional Centre, Madala, Ilorin.
The case was adjourned till September 28, 2020 for further mention.
