A court sitting in Ilorin has discharged and acquitted a former student of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Saubana Adebara of the allegation of defamation of character brought against him by a sacked staffer of the institution, Rashidat Kolawole.
The verdict was pronounced by Chief Magistrate Jibril Ziki lastThursday.
The complainant, Kolawole was reported to have dragged Adebara before the revenue citing defamation of her character as reason for filing lawsuit.
The accused, it was gathered, hacked the school portal through the
assistance of the claimant to perpetrate mendacious activities.
They were said to be in the habit of charging student humongous amount of money to effect their examination results.
The defendant, abetted by his cohort was alleged to have
manipulated results of no fewer than four students including that of
Aishat AbdulRasaq.
In the same vein, Adebara was said to have admitted committing the offence and incriminated the claimant during an interrogation session with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) after they were caught and arrested over the allegation.
The disciplinary committee set up by the school to look in to the
incident was said to have fired Kolawole after she was found culpable.
It is against the background she filed a lawsuit against Adebara, accusing him of bring her character into disrepute by indicting her in the case.
The prosecuting counsel, Debo Adeyemo, presented evidence before the court but called no witness to substantiate his claim.
The defendant counsel, Tunde Abdul Gegele summoned three witnesses one from the NSCDC, KWASU and member of his clients family, one Segun Adebara.
