Kwara state students under the aegies National Association of Kwara State students has demanded justice for the Kwara student allegedly shot by police in Ekiti.
In a statement jointly signed by the Association President, Adisa-Jaji Azeez and Director of Publicity, Abdulmumeen Abubakar, they condemned the act of the Ekiti first lady.
The statement reads, “In a peaceful protest by the students of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) concerning the bad state of Electricity in Oye-Ekiti, electricity which happened to be one of the basic needs for students. The students during the protest tried to stop the convoy of the Governor’s wife for consultation, unfortunately the governor’s wife failed to wait to address the students accordingly,”
“Following the unconcerned act of the Governor’s wife the students followed her convoy which resulted into barbaric shooting by the Security aides of the Governor’s wife, the animalistic reaction which left one dead and many injured and in particular our own, The Vice President Admin, National Association of Kwara State Students, FUOYE Chapter, Sulyman Olalekan AKA Dino Melaye,”
Stating their demands, they said, “The police officers that perpetrated this crime must be arrested and prosecuted with immediate effect,”
“The wife of the Governor, Mrs. Bisi Fayemi who gave her Police orderlies to shoot the protesting students at sight that left Sulyman Olalekan AKA Dino Melaye injured should be prosecuted with immediate effect,”
“All medical care expenses which the victim might have incur must be financed by the wife of the state Governor,”
They further said, “Failure to reflect this sign of responsibility by the Wife of the State Governor and the Nigeria Police, we shall declare both legal and political/social war against the Wife of the Governor and the Nigeria Police.”
Recall that the students of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti protest turned violent after police officers shot sporadically at students who tried to have a conversation with the wife of the Ekiti State governor, Bisi Fayemi, on poor electricity at the institution. This unfortunate incident left two dead wland several injured.
