The Federal Government today held an “education enterprise” summit at the University of Ilorin through the Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria Connect programme.
The YouWiN Connect is the Federal Government’s education programme which was established in 2011 to midwife enterprises across the country.
It is aimed at equipping young Nigerian with tools, skills, education and information required to build and grow successful businesses.
Speaking at the summit today, the guest speaker, Mr. Lawal Oloungbebe who highlighted possible ways in which entrepreneurs could create avenues for investors to fund their Small and Medium scale businesses also cautioned them against sharing their “business ideas” carelessly.
Oloungbebe advised the students to be “up and doing” and take every step with available opportunities.
Mr. Akaje Ibrahim, in his speech, said the activities embedded in promoting entrepreneurship as a viable career option for young Nigerians will in turn create more jobs and wealth thus generating the needed critical mass, spurring entrepreneurship mind- set change among the teeming youths through enterprise education.
The institution students’ affairs sub-dean, Dr. Akanmu Alex while delivering his goodwill message urged the students to start living outside of the four walls of the University.
He said, “You may study Yoruba Engineering and end up in the banking sector. I do tell people, immediately you are about to graduate, there are consequences, because your family members will believe you should now be self-reliant, which of course, you must be. You need to take every advantages because the system will later ask what you gain.”

A book, “Successful Nigerian entrepreneurs: How they started”, which was ealier unveiled in Abuja by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, was also distributed at the occasion.
