Farmer bags 1 year imprisonment for stealing hotel generator, amplifier

A farmer, James Longkat, has been sentenced to one year imprisonment over alleged stealing of an amplified speaker valued at N 110,000 and a generator  worth N100,000.

The farmer has been sentenced to one year imprisonment by a court in Jos on Wednesday.

A panel of judges, Mr Hyacinth Dolnanan and Malam Sadqi Adam, sentenced the convict to one year imprisonment.

The convict has pleaded guilty to theft and persuaded the court to be linient.

The Judges has given the convict an option to pay a fine of N20,000 or risk six months imprisonment.

The judges have also directed the convict to pay compensation of N250, 000 to the complainant.

Insp Ibrahim Gowkat, the prosecution counsel earlier informed the court that the case was reported by one Franklin Bush, at the Dadin Kowa Police station Jos, on Sept. 6.

He added that Longkat, paid a visit to the hotel under the guise of lodging and illegally took away an amplified speaker and generator.

The police revealed that during the investigation of the police, Longkat confessed that he sold the stolen items in Bukuru Area of Jos for N10, 000.

Gowkat also added that the offence was in contravention of the provisions of Sections 272 of the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
