The Chairman of Ikole Local Government Area (LGA) in Ekiti, Mr Sola Olominu, has warned youths in the state to stop engaging in political thuggery as the forthcoming state governorship poll approaches.
Olominu, who gave the warning on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ikole-Ekiti, said that youths were the most vulnerable individuals that were capable of engaging in vices in every election in Ekiti.
Olominu warned them to avoid being used as thugs and criminals for election purposes by politicians.
He said that anybody caught engaging in any form of criminal activities during the election would be arrested and prosecuted.
“I want to warn youths in Ikole LGA to desist from engaging in political thuggery.
“We are a peace-loving people in Ikole-Ekiti and other communities in the LGA and we do not engage in any form of thuggery.
“This is the reason why I want to warn that any youth caught disrupting the electoral process or damaging materials will be arrested and prosecuted.
“Anybody who wishes to hire youths as thugs should recruit their children because we do not want any bloodshed of our young ones, all in the name of election,” he said.
The chairman advised parents and community leaders to always educate their children and youths on the dangers inherent in thuggery.
