The great football legend will be laid to rest at the Memorial Necropole Ecumenica cemetery
on Tuesday
Back in 2003, Pele had expressed his desire for his remains to rest at the cemetery, which is located less than a kilometer away from Santos’ Vila Belmiro stadium.
The private ceremony will be attended by just Pele’s family and his remains will occupy the ninth floor of a vertical cemetery as a tribute to his father, who wore no.9 during his professional career as a footballer.
Fans will also be able to pay their respects at the Santos stadium on Monday and his remains will be buried on Tuesday, January 3.
The coffin is expected be placed in the center of the Vila Belmiro stadium pitch and visiting will take place between 10:00 local time on Monday and 10:00 on Tuesday.
Then, Pele’s casket will be carried through the streets of Santos and will pass through the Canal 6 area, where Pele’s 100-year-old mother, Celeste Arantes, still lives today, before heading to the cemetery
