Kwara State Male Basketball team, also known as Kwara Falcons on Saturday etched their name in history after defeating Nigeria Customs team 78 – 53 in the final of Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Super 8 final.
The team who last Sunday won the Sam Oguche Annual Bullet Basketball Championship showed class against their opponent in the game played at the Indoor Sport Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere on Sunday.
Coach Baba Side led from start to finish, gaining all Territory against a customs side that had earlier outscored them during the conference games.
Six Falcon players contributed double digits, all led by Victor Eze 17points, 5 rebounds followed by Tolani Buhari 16points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists.
The four of J.Kareem, Victor Mohammed, Ezekiel Adeyanju and Samuel Dada poured 13, 12, 10 and 10 points respectively on the way to victory.
Falcons stretched a seven point lead at the first quarter to 13 at the break which was extended to 14 at the end of the third quarter before a 12 – 0 scoring run increased the lead to 25 at the end of the game.
Coach Baba Jubril expressed joy and delight after the game and commended his wards for achieving the extraordinary feat which he described as landmark.
He appreciated the kwara state sport commission and the state government for there unwavering commitment and assured that the team will start preparations for the Africa League.
With the victory, the Kwara team became the second team after Rivers hoppers to qualify for the Basketball Africa league.
