Bayelsa Queens win bronze medal at CAF Women Champions League

Bayelsa Queens FC of Nigeria on Saturday defeated Simba Queens of Tanzania to win the third place final of the second edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League in Morroco.

A Juliet Sunday’s 71 minutes strike was all the prosperity girls side needed to scoop the bronze medal and make history as the first Nigeria team to win a medal at the Women’s CAF Champions League.

The Coach Domo Okara led side left a great legacy in the continent as they rose above their defeat in the semi final against AS FAR FC of Morocco to win the game on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Bawou Gabrielle of Bayelsa Queens would eventually be rewarded with the player of the match award as result of her impressive performance within the sticks.

Meanwhile, it’s going to be a repeat of last year’s final on Sunday when the inaugural champions,Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa face ASFAR FC of Morroco in the battle for the ultimate prize.

Nigeria’s representative to the last year’s edition, Rivers Angels failed to qualify from the group stage, a feat that has now been achieved by Bayelsa Queens
