On the 11th of December 2020, UDEME, an organisation under Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism for social accountability, did an investigative piece on how Sports Facilities in Kwara remain in ruin despite budgetary provisions.
Through the investigation, it was revealed that in 2017, the state government pegged a total sum of N36,460,000 for the rehabilitation of Kwara State Swimming Pool Complex.
But an inspection of the facility by U-Monitor revealed that no rehabilitation projects was done on the facility as budgeted on the state budget for 2017. The building was met dusty and the paint has nearly vanished from the wall. The pools were found colourless and stinking.
Barely two months after this report, the state government disclosed that works have started on the mission to bring back the glory of the facility and to make it of a global Standard.
“Work begins at the recently approved comprehensive renovation of the swimming pool at the Kwara State Stadium Complex by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq,” a statement released by the government via their verified social media platform disclosed.
