Atiku reacts as Air Peace offers to evacuate Nigerians in Sudan, free of charge

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 25 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has praised the popular Nigerian airline, Air Peace for offering to evacuate stranded Nigerians in Sudan.

As earlier reported by The Informant247, Air Peace has declared its readiness to assist stranded Nigerians who are in Sudan amidst the crisis in the North African country.

The airline revealed that it would evacuate the citizens of Nigeria who are stranded in Sudan without collecting any money.

This was revealed by the Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema.

The CEO of the airline said Nigerian students and other persons who are stranded in Sudan have urgent “needs for help.”

He said if Nigerian citizens in Sudan can be transported to a nearby country to Sudan, his airline would evacuate them.

He disclosed that the Sudan’s airspace has been closed for civil aviation flights.

While commenting on the development in a post through his Twitter account, the presidential candidate commended the decision of the airline to evacuate the stranded Nigerians in Sudan.

Atiku charged the federal government to lend the airline the needed assistance to implement the task ahead, in order to save Nigerians in the war torn country.

He wrote: “The news of the crisis in Sudan is on the front burner on the global stage, with different countries evacuating their nationals from the war-torn country.

“It is, therefore, heartwarming to hear the news of @flyairpeace volunteering to evacuate the over 5,500 Nigerian citizens stranded in Sudan. This gesture is commendable, and I will ask the Federal Government to give the company every assistance necessary to carry out this arduous task.

“It was also the case in 2019, in the heat of the xenophobic attack in South Africa, that Air Peace came to the rescue of Nigerians. Thus, the Chairman of Air Peace, Mr Allen Onyeama, deserves special commendation for his uncommon act of patriotism and selfless service to our dear country.

“While I commend the Chairman and management of the Air Peace Group for always coming to the rescue of Nigerians in the time of emergency, I will advise our Foreign Affairs Ministry, the National Emergency Management Agency, and Nigerians in Diaspora Commission to be more proactive in handling the affairs and security of our citizens in Diaspora.”

The Informant247 recalls that chairman of the airline extended similar gesture in 2019 when he evacuated Nigerians from South Africa during the xenophobic attack.

Report has it that over 5,000 Nigerians mostly students were reportedly stranded in Sudan.

The Sudan’s crisis began as a result of a clash between Sudanese soldiers and a paramilitary group known as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The Informant247 gathered that the violence has taken lives of over 270 persons.

The violent clash has made thousands of civilians moved to Khartoum, the capital of Sudan.

The Informant247 learned that foreign countries are considering the evacuation of their nationals as the crisis was intensifying day by day.
