The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has tackled the Federal Government over the ongoing seven month industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
NANS has described the industrial action as a danger to the fundamental human right of Nigerian students, and their access to education.
Comrade Olusesi Tolulope Samson, who’s the Lagos state chairman of NANS, made this revelation during a television session on Tuesday while responding to questions on the students’ protest at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Monday.
He revealed that the industrial action has had negative effect on the future of their members.
He noted that some male members of NANS have turned to mechanics; some are now learning printing works; and some female members of the association are impregnated.
“The Federal Government has jeopardised and bastardised the fundamental human right of the Nigerian students. Some came to the protest yesterday with their ID cards, learning mechanics now. Some are learning printing works, while some female students are pregnant,” he said.
He revealed that the protest of the students at the airport was a way of alerting the people at international stage that something wrong has been happening in the country, especially the education sector.
The Informant247 had earlier reported that the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS has suspended its ongoing protest in Lagos state.
The Chairman of NANS, Lagos axis, Comrade Olusesi Tolulope, during a telephone interview on Tuesday, revealed that the protest had been suspended.
The chairman said the suspension of the protest was as a result of the intervention of Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
