The federal lawmaker, Senator Smart Adeyemi (All Progressives Congress, APC, Kogi West) has revealed the reasons he is campaigning for the presidential candidate of the ruling party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and his deputy, Kashim Shettima.
The federal legislator said he is campaigning for the two because it is the will of God for them to lead the country in 2023.
Adeyemi while addressing journalists during a television session said he had no issue with the Muslim-Muslim ticket and that he has strong belief in the capacity of the ruling party to govern the country.
Adeyemi said, “I am campaigning for Tinubu and Shettima because if you ask me, may be it’s the will of God that these two men should come this time around. I have no quarrel about it and I believe in them being able to pilot the affairs of our nation to a higher level.
“The issue of same faith ticket is coming after the flag bearer of the APC, Bola Tinubu, nominated Kashim Shettima, who happens to be a Muslim, as his vice. This nomination did not sit well with Nigerians who have accused the APC of moves to relegate Christians, a claim repeatedly dismissed by the party’s leadership.”
However, the senator is pursuing an amendment to the Electoral Act, 2022 to place a ban on political parties from presenting same-faith presidential ticket to prevent a future repetition of Tinubu-Shettima occurrence in the future.
“My fear for Nigeria is that may be unlike privileged people, I don’t have another passport. I have only one passport and don’t have citizenship of another country. God forbid, if there is problem in this country, there is no where I can run to,” he added.
