Dani Alves has been denied bail by a Barcelona court following the dismissal of his appeal against the alleged sexual assault.
This is coming after the Barcelona Court of Appeals last week heard the appeal filed by Alves’ defense against the investigating judge’s decision to send him to prison without bail.
Marca news reported legal sources claimed that in the hearing, Alves’ defense referred to the appeal filed to request his release and insisted that the footballer will not flee in giving his sufficient roots in Spain.
Counsel to Alves also reportedly questioned the story of the alleged victim, among other aspects because she does not have vaginal injuries.
However, this appeal has had no effect and the Barcelona Court agreed on Tuesday morning to keep Alves in pre-trial detention without bail.
The trial is also being held behind closed doors to protect the privacy of the victim.
Alves was accused of allegedly raping a young woman in a Barcelona nightclub on December 30.
He was consequently sent to jail on January 20.
