Rivers United through to group stage of CAF Confederation Cup

Rivers United have secured passage to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup after playing out a 1-1 draw with El Nasr Bengazhi of Libya on Wednesday’s night.

The Nigeria league Champions had a 5 goals advantage going in to the second leg of the game on Wednesday and were able to scale through with 6-1 on goal aggregate.

It was a mixed outing for the Pride of Rivers who have alleged their hosts of maltreatment since entering the country on Monday.

While the Stanley Eguma side trailed behind the host 1 nil in to the half time, an exquisite goal scorer by Nyima Nwagua in the 60th minutes was all they needed to down the morale of their hosts.

Rivers United are now the only Nigeria representative at the continent after all other teams, including Plateau United who dropped from CAF Champions League crashed out
