After losing senate ticket, Mashood Mustapha empowers supporters, backs Saliu — AAJ applauds
Azeez Adisa-Jaji (AAJ), an aspirant for the Alanamu/Ajikobi Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, has commended Hon. Mashood Mustapha for empowering his supporters and subsequently backing Senator Saliu Mustapha after the outcome of the Kwara Central senatorial contest.
Adisa-Jaji, who hails from Alanamu Ward, described Mashood Mustapha’s gesture as an example of political maturity, sportsmanship and commitment to the people who have supported him throughout his political journey.
According to him, the empowerment initiative was particularly commendable because it came after Mashood Mustapha contested for the senatorial ticket but did not emerge.
Rather than allowing the outcome to affect his relationship with his supporters, Adisa-Jaji said, Mashood Mustapha chose to appreciate their loyalty by empowering them and providing opportunities for them.
«“As a fellow son of Alanamu Ward and an aspirant for Alanamu/Ajikobi Constituency, I commend Hon. Mashood Mustapha for remembering his supporters and empowering them.»
«“Leadership is not only about political positions; it is also about recognising, appreciating and standing by the people who stand by you.”»
Adisa-Jaji also applauded Mashood Mustapha for supporting and endorsing Senator Saliu Mustapha following the senatorial contest, describing the decision as a demonstration of maturity and a willingness to prioritise the collective interest.
He said the development showed that political relationships should not be defined solely by the outcome of elections or the attainment of political offices.
According to him, Mashood Mustapha’s decision to empower his supporters despite not securing the senatorial ticket sends a positive message about grassroots leadership and loyalty.
“For me, this is leadership at the grassroots. You remember your people, appreciate their loyalty and create opportunities for them, regardless of the outcome of a political contest,” he said.
Adisa-Jaji urged other political leaders and aspirants to emulate what he described as a people-oriented approach by prioritising the welfare and development of their supporters and constituents.
He stressed that the true value of political leadership should ultimately be measured by its impact on the people rather than political positions alone.
