AfDB president, Adesina visits Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, September 10 at the Presidential Villa received in audience, the newly re-elected President of African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina.
Adesina was at the Villa to express his gratitude to the president for the intervening role he played during his probe by the bank’s ethical committee at the twilight of his first tenure.
The former Minister of Agriculture visited President Buhari for the first time since his re-election as AfDB president late August.
It would be recalled that Adesina was in July cleared of wrongdoings by an Independent Review Panel set up by the institution’s Board of Governors, following allegations of graft and poor management levelled against him.
Buhari, through his personal twitter account, congratulated Adesina in person, for being re-elected for another five-year tenure, noting that the AfDB chief has been very supportive of his administration.
He, however, said he fully supported Adesina’s presidency in 2015, despite their varying political affiliations.
“Today I congratulated him in person on winning re-election to a second and final term in office. Nothing succeeds like success. He has been very supportive of our administration, and I wish him all the best in this second term.
In 2015, @akin_adesina was a Minister with the PDP government, and I belonged to the APC. I fully supported him for the AfDB Presidency that first time, because he’s a good Nigerian. He proved to be competent, made us proud, and I was delighted to recommend him the second time.”
