AbdulRazaq, Mashood Mustapha meet in Saudi Arabia amid 2027 political realignments
Team MM dismisses reports of political bargain, says Mustapha will consult supporters before taking major decision
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has met with prominent politician and Wakilin Ilorin Emirate, Hon. Mashood Mustapha, in Saudi Arabia amid ongoing political consultations and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, which has generated reactions and speculations in political circles, was confirmed by Team MM, the support group of the former federal lawmaker.
In a statement made available to The Informant247, Team MM dismissed reports suggesting that the meeting was an attempt by either of the two political figures to seek political favours from the other.
The group said the interaction should instead be viewed within the context of ongoing political engagements among stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to the group, consultations and meetings between political actors, including those across party lines, are part of the democratic process and should not automatically be interpreted as evidence of a political deal.
Team MM described Mashood Mustapha as a major political figure in Kwara whose influence and contributions to the state’s political landscape could not be overlooked.
The group also disclosed that Mustapha had, before travelling to Saudi Arabia, met with some political stakeholders from Kwara in Abuja, noting that those engagements did not attract similar speculation.
It maintained that the Nigerian Constitution guarantees citizens the freedom of association and the right to make personal political choices.
The statement further stressed that the welfare of Mustapha’s supporters and the development of Kwara State remained central to his political considerations.
Team MM said Mustapha, who is currently outside the country, had yet to make any official declaration regarding the ongoing political realignments ahead of 2027.
The group added that the politician would take his time to carefully consider the available options before making any major political decision.
“Hon. MM is committed to his supporters and will not take any major political decision without due consideration of their interests and aspirations,” the statement said.
Team MM therefore urged political stakeholders, supporters and members of the public to remain calm and allow the political process to unfold.
The group assured supporters that they would be informed when Mustapha reaches any major political decision.
It also prayed for continued wisdom and guidance for the politician as he contributes to the development of Kwara State.
