Asake, a well-known Afrobeat singer, was forced to halt his sold-out performance at the O2 Academy Brixton midway because so many supporters tried to enter the venue without tickets.
Reports say that on Thursday, December 15, 2022, the supporters tried to break through the doors of the venue, which stopped the sold-out show in the middle of it.
Four people who were trying to get into the Brixton O2 Academy around 9:35 p.m. had serious injuries that “are thought to have been caused by crushing.” This is what many people who were trying to get in said.
As the tragic situation got worse, police and other emergency services were called to the O2 Academy in Brixton.
Asake issued a statement this morning, writing on Instagram: “My heart is with those who were injured last night and caused any form of discomfort. I pray you to get well soonest.
“I am also in the process of reaching out to individuals. I still do not have the full brief from the venue management themselves as to what led to the disruption at the entrance of The Brixton Academy, but we are thankful that all was peaceful in the end.
The show, which was abandoned halfway through, was the third of three sold-out concerts by the Nigerian singer who had performed in Brixton.
