40-yr-old in court over alleged N1.8m job fraud in Kaduna

A man, Dauda Yusuf, was on Tuesday brought before a court over alleged N1.8 million job fraud.

Yusuf appeared before a Kaduna High Court over alleged N1.8 million job scam.

He was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with employment fraud.

Mr E.K. Garba, the EFCC Counsel, informed the court that the defendant carried out the offence sometime in August 2021 in Kaduna.

Garba revealed that the defendant had defrauded his victims of N1.8million under the guise of getting jobs for them with the Nigeria Customs Service.

He also added that the defendant fraudulently got the sum of N200, 000 from one person, Hamed Suleiman and eight other persons.

He defrauded then under the guise of wanting to get employment for the victims with the Nigeria Customs Service.

Garba disclosed that the offence was in contravention of the  sections 213 of the Penal Code Kaduna State, 2017.

When the matter was read to the defendant,
he however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Mr Usman Bala, the Counsel to the defendant persuaded the court to grant his client bail.

Hannatu Balogun, who presided over the matter granted the defendant N500,000 bail plus two sureties in like sum.

Balogun directed that each surety must live within the jurisdiction of the court and must be a owner of a landed property.

She said that the sureties must have a reliable source of income and present evidence of two years tax payment to the State Government.

She has adjourned the matter until December 12 for hearing.
