2027: Atiku officially resigns from PDP

The former Vice President and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election has officially resigned from the party.

Atiku, in a statement he personally signed and directed to the PDP chairman, Jada 1 ward, Jada local government area of Adamawa, said his decision was due to the crisis within the party.

He said, “However, I find it necessary to part ways due to the current trajectory the Party has taken, which I believe diverges from the foundational principles we stood for. It is with a heavy heart that I resign, recognizing the irreconcilable differences that have emerged.”

The former Vice President, however, expressed his gratitude to the party for giving him platform to serve as the number 2 citizen of the country, while wishing the party all the very best.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express my profound gratitude for the opportunities I have been given by the Party. Serving two full terms as Vice President of Nigeria and being a Presidential candidate twice has been one of the most significant chapters of my life. As a founding father of this esteemed Party, it is indeed heartbreaking for me to make this decision.”

“I wish the Party and its leadership all the best in the future. Thank you once again for the opportunities and support.”

The Informant247 reports that in a move to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and other tops oppositions have formed coalition, seeking to oust President Tinubu under African Democratic Congress (ADC)

The gathering also included prominent figures such as Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi, along with former governors Malam Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi.

Also present were David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, who recently took on roles as interim national chairman and national secretary of the ADC after resigning from their previous party affiliations. Their leadership is poised to direct the coalition’s strategy as they prepare for the 2027 general elections.

The meeting attracted several distinguished politicians, including former National Assembly member Senator Dino Melaye, former Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalong, and Senator Ireti Kingibe of the Labour Party, among others.

During the gathering, the coalition reaffirmed its commitment to utilizing the ADC as their platform to mount a challenge against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Mark’s recent departure from the PDP to take on the helm of the ADC is viewed as a pivotal step in the opposition’s efforts to consolidate power ahead of the upcoming elections.
