The famous Nigerian novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has revealed the reason she wrote a letter to the United States of America President, Joe Biden on the February 25 presidential election.

She said she wrote the letter to reveal the fact that the election was unforgivably flawed.

Recall that Chimamanda had on Thursday April 6 argued that the 2023 elections were intentionally manipulated by some political actors in the country.

She condemned the manner the US Department and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak celebrated the outcome of the election whose process was faulty, despite its stance on “global community for democracy, and the need to stand up for “justice and the rule of law.

While speaking on her letter to foreign leaders, she said the election was characterised by massive irregularities, violence and ballot snatching, affirming that she has evidence to prove her claims.

She said she wrote the letter to the US president to expose the “two-facedness of the US government” in regards to African politics.

She said the US always call out African countries for not being democratic and the same US is endorsing the undemocratic process in one of the African countries.

She said: “This was an election that was unforgivably flawed and there’s evidence for that. The statement about technical glitches being the cause is unconvincing.

“I wrote the letter to preserve this truth and call out the United States for what I consider two-facedness when it comes to Africa. They criticize African countries for being undemocratic and endorse the undemocratic process.”

The novelist said the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC owes the people some explanations.

She added: “Nigerians deserve the respect of an institution that is supposed to shepherd a democracy. So nobody has come out to explain to Nigerians how that happened.

“There’s a statement of technical glitches; it’s unconvincing and knowing how much hope and trust Nigerians invested in this election, knowing that Nigeria is a low-trust society means that if people are sincere and there’s nothing to hide, then you make an extra effort to go out and explain to Nigerians what happened.”
