The Nigerian students, under the umbrella of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, have threatened to frustrate the campaigns of candidates and political parties, until the ongoing industrial action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, is called off.
The Informant247 observes that NANS has issued the threat as the country is getting prepared for the 2023 general elections.
The apex students’ body in the country, has made a vow that the students would frustrate activities at all the country’s public assets, including sea ports.
The students revealed that these are to sustain the ongoing #EndASUUStrikeNow campaign until the Federal Government finds lasting solutions to the issues with ASUU and students go back to their various campuses.
The Chairman, NANS National Taskforce on #EndASUUStrikeNow, Raymond Ojo, made this revelation while speaking at a press conference at Ogun Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, Abeokuta, on Wednesday.
Ojo confessed that the blocking of road and port networks is just a warning.
“If the government fails to conclude all the negotiation and agreement with ASUU within the frame of two weeks, they will witness more protests and rallies all over the country, they will also witness the annoyance, anger, and frustration of Nigerian students who have been at home for the past seven months.
“We promise them that we will not allow any political campaign to hold across the country until we are back to class,” he said.
Ojo, said expressed displeasure over the lingering industrial action that a lot of Nigerian students have missed and lost a lot due to what he referred to as an “unwarranted dispute between the FG and ASUU,” adding some have lost their lives or involved in one casualty or the other due to the ASUU strike.”
