President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday moved from Abuja to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, to partake in an African Union summit.
The international organization is having its Extra-ordinary Session of Assembly of Heads of State and Government with emphasis on security.
Among those who accompanied the President were the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Director General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Amb. Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar; Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management & Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq; National Security Adviser, Maj-Gen Babagana Monguno (rtd); Minister of Defence, Maj-Gen Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd); and Chairman, Nigerians In Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
The Nigerian first lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari, who is the President of African First Ladies Peace Mission, also accompanied her husband to the meeting.
The spokesperson of the president, Mallam Garba Shehu via a statement said the three-day summit, which will take place on May 26th-28th, will also put emphasis on Humanitarian Challenges in Africa, chiefly, migration, refugees, returnees and Internally Displaced Persons.
Shehu said President Buhari will join other Heads of State and Government to deliberate on Humanitarian Challenges, Hopes and Challenges in Africa, and participate in adoption of Assembly Declaration on Humanitarian Summit and pledging conference.
He said that the association of Heads of State and Government in Africa will take a strong position on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Change of Government, and reach agreements on new remedies to the challenges.
The presidential spokesman said President Buhari will use the opportunity to hold other meetings with some leaders in Malabo.
