Waste Management: KWEPA and KWIRS Should Follow Due Process

The Informant247 has learnt of an unfortunate scenario playing out at the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA), alleging efforts to thwart the good work of the Executive Secretary of the agency, Mr. Yomi Gada, who has been in a running battle with some consultancy firms over failure to remit accrued revenue during the course of the year.

A reliable source who craved anonymity revealed to The informant247 that some consultants contracted by the agency in collaboration with the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) are owing the agency hundreds of thousands in revenue, while some owe as high as 400,000 naira and more.

It was alleged that the defaulting consultancy firms are owned by cronies and officials of the last administration as some are even alleged to have more than one (1) company in the waste management scheme, and intentionally fail to remit into the coffer of agency due to systemic impunity they enjoyed from the previous administration.

It was further gathered that the Executive Secretary has vowed that no indebted consultancy firm during the last administration would be re-engaged. It was also disclosed that only about seven (7) of the firms have so far respected agreements of engagements.

Our source expressed worry that all efforts by the Executive Secretary of the agency to correct those anomalies are futile endeavours as some staffs of the KWIRS are in connivance with defaulting firms to run the agency aground.

Our source said he was only leaking this information to Theinformant247 in order to expose the systemic sharp practices at KWEPA: “All I want is KWEPA and KWIRS to do the right thing and assist the government to generate revenue, that is the only way Kwara can work for Kwarans, I urge the Executive Secretary not to relent in his quest to make sure due process is strictly followed”, he said.
