WAFCON: Super Falcons through to semi-final, secure world cup ticket
The Nigeria Super Falcons on Thursday claimed a 1-0 victory against their Cameroonian counterparts in the quarter-final of the ongoing Women African Cup of Nations(WAFCON) in Morocco.
Rasheedat Ajibade’s 56th minutes header was all the Nigerian team needed to edge out the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in the crucial game.
It was yet another show of class from Ajibade as she grabbed her third goal of the tournament with two assists to her credit.
While the victory means that Nigeria have qualified for the semi-final of the tournament, the nine time winner of Women Nations Cup has also secured yet another World Cup appearance.
Super Falcons will now face host nation, the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco in the last four stage of the tournament which is being played in a 12-team format for the first time.
Zambia and Morocco had earlier on Wednesday booked their semi-final ticket and passages to the New Zealand and Australia global showpiece following their wins over Senegal and Bostwana
Nigeria have participated in all eight editions of the FIFA World Cup since 1991.
