VP, Osinbajo to represent Buhari in Kenya for inauguration of new president, Ruto

The Federal Government has said that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) will represent the country in Kenya for the inauguration of William Ruto as the 5th President scheduled for today, Tuesday.

The electoral victory of Ruto in last month’s election was corroborated by the country’s Supreme Court last week.

This was revealed in the State House press statement issued, yesterday, by Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity.

The statement noted that the Vice President would be followed to Kenya by Ambassador Zubairu Dada, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Senator Babafemi Ojudu the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters.

The statement read: “Prof. Osinbajo departs Abuja tonight and will join other leaders across Africa and beyond for the swearing-in ceremony scheduled to hold in Nairobi with about 20 heads of state expected to grace the ceremony”.

The statement also revealed that, one of the programmes of the event would be the handing over of the symbols of power which include a ceremonial sword and a copy of the constitution of Kenya to the new president by outgoing President, Uhuru Kenyatta.

The statement further acknowledged that Nigeria and Kenya share very long standing diplomatic relations.

The statement also added that Professor Osinbajo would be back to Abuja after the event.
