A Divisional Police Officer (DPO) has been killed by some gunmen in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.
Those who witnessed the scenario said the DPO was gunned down by armed men who invaded Naka-Makurdi dilapidated road around 3:30pm.
The incident was confirmed by the Chairman of Gwer West LGA, Andrew Ayande.
The chairman told newsmen that late DPO of the Naka Divisional Police Station, was driving and was on his way to pick his officers who were to resume routine duty together, before the gunmen started shooting sporadically.
The chairman, however, said he has not ascertained if other users of the road were attacked.
The spokesperson of the state police Command, Catherine Anene, confirmed the death of the DPO whose identity she disclosed as SP. Mamud Abubakar.
She said, “Death of the DPO Naka confirmed. Details will follow soon please.”
