Kashim Shettima presiding over NEC meeting

Tribunal dismisses APM’s suit, affirms Shettima’s candidacy

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has dismissed a lawsuit brought before it by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), which sought to challenge the eligibility of Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The APM had argued that Tinubu improperly endorsed Kashim Shettima as the vice-presidential candidate for the election on behalf of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The opposition party contended that Shettima remained the APC candidate for Borno Central Senatorial District on July 14 when he accepted the vice-presidential nomination.

However, in its ruling on Wednesday, the PEPT declared that this matter pertains to pre-election issues, and therefore, it did not fall within its jurisdiction.

Furthermore, the court determined that APM lacked the legal standing (locus standi) to initiate proceedings related to Shettima’s nomination and sponsorship.
