The Oba of Jebba and Ohoro of Shao, Oba (Dr) Alhaji Bamidele Alabi Adegbite and Oba (Alhaji) Abdulkadir Alabi Adebara in their quest for justice have jointly issued press release urging the current administration of Governor AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman to address the agelong non payment of remunerations and demotion of Traditional heads in Moro Local Government Council.
“We, on behalf of other Traditional Heads of the Towns and Villages in Moro Local Government, would like to formally notify the Rt. Honorable Speaker and all the Honorable Members of Kwara State House of Assembly and register our protest against the denials and injustices, which have for many years been meted on the Traditional Chiefs in Moro Local Government Area by past administrations in Kwara State, in the area of non-payment of our remunerations as expected.
While we are aware that the sum of 5% of the Monthly Federal Allocated Funds that accrued to Moro Local Government for many years in the past were being deducted and expectedly meant for the benefits and upkeep of the Traditional Chiefs in Moro Local Government, it is however sad that since the monies were being deducted, none of the indigenous Traditional Chief have benefited from a single Kobo out the monies deducted.
We learnt that the meager sums of money that were paid to us in the past as salaries and allowances, which are already in cumulative arrears of over forty Months, were being paid from the monthly Running Cost approval to the Local Government Council by past administrations.
We believe that this practice, which have been imposed on us over the past years, is against the concept and practice of equity, fairness and sense of justice to Traditional Chiefs in Moro Local Government. It therefore demands your urgent intervention, in order to save us from further ridicule and punishment.”
The two traditional rulers, however called on Kwara State House of Assembly to look into the alleged injustice mete out on them.
“We are by this formal protest to the Honorable Members of the Peoples’ Parliament, full of the hope and are praying that you, our Honorable Members, will urgently rescue all the Traditional Chiefs in Moro Local Government from oppression and further denials of our fundamental right of enjoying the fruits of our labour, by ensuring that the 5% Monthly deductions from the Federal Allocated Funds to our Local Government, are henceforth paid to Traditional Chiefs in Moro Local Government for their benefits as expected.”
