A fire outbreak has destroyed property worth millions of naira at the Ipata cattle market in the Ilorin, the Kwara State capital city.
According to the Kwara State Fire Service, no fewer than 15 cattle, 15 sheep, 15 rams, and 25 goats were burnt to ashes.
Speaking on the cause of the fire outbreak, the fire service said, “The inferno was emanated from the abandoned refuse burning, which later got agitated by the blowing wind, and spread to the nearby ranch where some animals were been kept.”
The fire service said while it prevented the inferno from destroying more than 470 shops, only three shops and an open big shed constructed with planks for goat sellers were razed.
The Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa (CFO) was quoted as urging residents “to be more safety-conscious in their daily dealings in order to minimize the frequent fire occurrences across the state”.
