Members of the Tinubu Youth Force (TYF) in Kwara State have defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with the group’s state chairman saying similar movements are being planned in other parts of the state.
The defection took place on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, during a PDP campaign programme themed “For a Greater Kwara 2027”, where the defectors were formally received and presented with the party’s flag.
Speaking at the event, the State Chairman of the Tinubu Youth Force, Prince Dr Ambali Sikiru Abidemi, confirmed the group’s movement to the PDP but said the decision would not affect its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the presidential level.
He said following the movement in Kwara South, similar defections were being planned in Kwara North and Kwara Central.
The PDP Organising Secretary in the state, Mallam Suleiman Ganiyu Kehinde, said the movement was aimed at returning the party to power in Kwara State.
He assured supporters that the PDP would not disappoint them, describing the growing number of defectors as a sign of increasing support for the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The PDP State Publicity Secretary, Comrade Adewara Olushola Olusegun, also described the defection as part of several movements expected to strengthen the party.
He said more people were willingly joining the PDP and expressed confidence that the impact of the movement would become more visible by December.
Olushola further alleged that the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had failed the people of Kwara South, saying the PDP would not support “that kind of administration” in 2027.
The event also featured remarks from Hon. Ruben Ajayi, who represented the House of Assembly candidate for Ekiti Local Government, and Hon. Bashir Madando, who represented the House of Assembly candidate for Isin Local Government.
The welcome address was delivered by the Senatorial Woman Leader, Hon. Magret Abegunde, while other PDP executives and political stakeholders attended the event.
The defectors were presented with PDP flags during the reception. Members of the group also publicly destroyed APC party materials as they announced their decision to join the opposition party.
