Tinubu won’t intervene again in Rivers crisis — Wike
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not step in again to resolve the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, describing the President’s latest intervention as final.
Wike made this known on Tuesday while speaking with journalists after inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
His comments came days after President Tinubu brokered another peace meeting between Wike and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, at the Presidential Villa on Sunday night.
According to Wike, the President’s involvement was driven by his role as a father figure and a peacemaker, but he stressed that such interventions should not become a regular occurrence.
“All I can tell you is that Mr President has been very kind to the people of the state. If there seems to be a problem between the legislature and the governor, as a father, he really has to intervene,” Wike said.
He noted that this was the second time President Tinubu had stepped in to address the crisis and expressed hope that it would be the last.
“I remember this is the second time Mr President has intervened. I believe, by the grace of God, this will be the last time,” he said.
Wike added that he had advised members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to respect and comply with the President’s directive, expressing confidence that they would do so.
“I have told the Assembly to obey Mr President, which I know they will not hesitate to do. I also believe that this is the final time we must be hearing this kind of discourse,” he said.
