Nigerian President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday, ordered a thorough investigation into the shooting of a two-year-old boy, Ivan Omhonrina, who killed during a raid in Delta state.
It could be recalled that Femi Babafemi, spokesperson of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), on Saturday, said a stray bullet hit the young Omhonrina when operatives of the agency raided the Okpanam area of Asaba, capital city of Delta, adding that the victim died in the hospital while undergoing treatment.
Tinubj, in a statement by Dele Alake, his special adviser on special duties, communications and strategy, directed NDLEA management to hasten the investigation so that justice would be served, adding that the toddler did not deserve to die that way.
The statement reads, “I mourn the death of little Ivan Omhonrina and sympathise with his parents for the painful experience of losing an innocent child in a most tragic manner.”
“Ivan did not deserve to die that way. We must ensure the incident did not end like that and that what happened to Ivan does not happen to any other person again.
“I also pray for the quick recovery of Eronmonsele, who was reportedly injured in that unfortunate event.
“That incident is unacceptable. We must unravel those who foisted agony on the Omhonrinas and ensure they are brought to justice.”
